Winter Digestive Tea

Warming & Nourishing Spiced Digestive Tea

This tea brings true warmth in the winter months. It warms up the process of digestion, decreases phlegm accumulation and is helpful in relieving gas and bloating after big meals.

  • 2 cups water

  • 1/2 inch piece fresh gingerroot

  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds

  • 1/2 tsp fennel seeds

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Bring two cups water to a boil in small saucepan. Coarsely chop the gingerroot and add to the water. Add the rest of the spices. Cover reduce to a low heat and simmer 10 minutes or more if you want a stronger tea.

Strain into mugs for serving. Take 6 ounces with meals or just after meals.

Cumin is known for its ability to help the body eliminate mucus – especially helpful in the winter when mucus starts to accumulate. Fennel decreases bloat and alleviates gas and cinnamon is deeply warming and nourishing to the whole system. Ginger is spicy and warm. It warms the lungs and stops cough by its acrid nature and it also warms the middle (stomach) and is a strong ally in any case of nausea and/or vomiting.

Enjoy!
