FAQs

  • It is one modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine (which also encompasses MANY other modalities of healing). Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine dating back thousands of years. It entails the use of extremely fine needles into the skin. This insertion of needles stimulates and encourages balance in the body at a physiological level. The side effects of this very safe treatment includes an increased sense of calm and feelings of well being. An acupuncture treatment can be focused on healing of a physical injury, addressing more complex internal disease conditions, and/or supporting mental-emotional health.

  • Short answer…yes! Acupuncture is appropriate for all ages. Generally, children respond favorably and they get better quickly when they receive acupuncture.

  • We have the skillset to go beyond needling! We use many techniques to render effective treatments that don’t require needles.

  • Currently we accept any healthcare saving plans and we are able to provide a super bill for you to provide your insurance company. We are working on getting in network with medicare and BCBSNC as well as United Healthcare so keep asking!

  • Loose comfortable clothing is best!

  • Let’s talk! We will work with you. We can provide discounted services to those in need based on income. Our goal is for our ENTIRE community to have access to care. We also offer free clinic days and “community appointments.”

  • The short answer is, no. Acupuncture should not be painful. You may, sometimes, feel a strong sensation upon insertion in order to achieve the desired therapeutic effect. This can feel like an “electric” sensation. A feeling of heaviness or a dull ache is also common and a good sign that the treatment is working. A skilled acupuncturist can needle so that you barely feel it at all and sometimes this is desired. That same acupuncturist, treating certain conditions, may also choose a more intense technique (always with your consent) that will produce the desired therapeutic outcome. Your practitioner will always communicate with you what you can expect during your treatment and you are in charge of your body at all times.

  • Absolutely not. Never. All needles are sterile, disposable, single use needles in sterile packaging. To dispose of needles after use, they are placed in an industry-standard, OSHA compliant sharps container.

  • As Chinese Medicine doctors, we can address symptoms of both acute and chronic conditions that affect body and/or mind. Examples include: physical pain and injury, PMS, menstrual irregularities, constipation, weight gain, digestive issues, GI tract issues, IBS, insomnia, metabolic disorders, perimenopause and menopausal syndrome, high blood pressure, chronic fatigue, allergies, addictions, acne and skin conditions, diabetes, parasitic infections, stress and anxiety.
