Happy Lunar New Year! 2023 is the Year of the Water Rabbit

The Lunar New Year begins January 23, 2023.  The year of the Yin Water Rabbit.

Like Western astrology, Chinese astrology has twelve signs, represented by a symbolic animal or magical creature.  Unlike Western astrology, Chinese zodiacs get an entire year, as opposed to monthly.  To create further individuality, each sign is associated with Yin or Yang, as well as a cycle of 5 elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) that cycles over 60 years.

Math: Twelve yearly signs (6 Yin and 6 Yang) x 5 elements = 60 year cycle.

For example: Last year was the year of the Water Tiger.  Tiger is a Yang animal and the element is Water. This year, the year of The Rabbit, a Yin animal, the cycle is Water.  Next year the element transitions to Wood. 2024 is the year of the Wood Dragon (Yang creature, Wood) and 2025 Wood Snake (Yin animal, Wood). Here’s a handy chart to explain what I may have just made really confusing.

The Rabbit is known for its patience, vigilance and quickness.  They are also representative of Spring.  New beginnings. Renewal. What was once dormant or hibernating in Winter, now start to emerge.  Life grows and bursts forth with new energy.

This Water Rabbit year is particularly special and symbolic for us. Spring is around the corner, and so is an exciting new beginning. Hendersonville Acupuncture and Wellness will be open soon and bursting forth with new energy.  We can’t contain our excitement, but we are patient, and we are working quickly to open our doors.

We are so ‘Hoppy’ to see you in 2023!   🐇
