Weight Loss Support for Women

When Your Body Stops Responding to What Always Worked

Women and Weight

You’re putting in the effort. You eat the way you always have, perhaps even more carefully. You stay active. Yet the scale, your stamina, and the fit of your waistband are all reporting something very different from what they did five years ago.

If that feels uncomfortably close to home, the first thing we want you to know at our Hendersonville clinic is this…you are not lazy and it’s not all in your head. For women, body weight is seldom a straightforward calories-in, calories-out matter. It’s woven together with hormones, sleep, stress, thyroid function, digestion, and the stage of life. Perimenopause and menopause, postpartum recovery, PCOS, and the long buildup of stress that happens in between all affect weight. Broad diet advice leaves all of that out. We don’t.

Why “weight loss for women” is its own discussion.

Chinese medicine has never framed weight as a problem of willpower. Instead, it reads weight shifts as information. It’s a clue that something beneath the surface has changed. For women, that underlying picture usually includes a hormonal chapter.

  • Perimenopause and menopause —> changing hormones often alter where the body stores weight and how it does so, while sleep and energy shift too, reinforcing the pattern.

  • PMOS (known prior as PCOS) and metabolic patterns —> where weight, cycles, and insulin sensitivity are linked, and shame-driven advice is useless.

  • Postpartum —> a body that created a human being deserves support for recovery, not a deadline to “bounce back.”

  • Long term stress and poor sleep —> stress physiology and sleep deprivation both work against weight goals in ways no meal plan can overpower.

Your practitioner’s role is to identify which chapter — or which chapters — your body is living through, then treat that accordingly.

Here’s what weight loss support looks like in our clinic.

  1. Acupuncture. Ongoing treatments focused on your underlying pattern — often helping digestion, stress regulation, sleep quality, and energy. In this approach, better sleep and a calmer nervous system aren’t just pleasant extras; they’re often the primary levers.

  2. Chinese herbal medicine. When appropriate, we create a custom formula from our in-house apothecary, prepared in small batches and checked by our doctoral-trained practitioners against every medication and supplement you use.

  3. Food as medicine. Not a diet. Instead, we recommend concrete, workable changes tailored to your pattern and your real life. In Chinese medicine, when and how you eat matters just as much as what you eat.

  4. Lifestyle and movement guidance. Small adjustments matched to your stage of life, because what supports a postpartum body is not the same as what supports a perimenopausal body.

A typical rhythm looks like this: 1X per week treatment ongoing for 12 weeks, then reassess. ‍ ‍

If you’re using — or stopping — a GLP-1 medication

A lot of the women we work with are taking medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide, and we regularly provide care alongside them. Wherever you are in that process, you won’t find judgment here, only support.

While you’re taking the medication, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can offer meaningful help with the side effects many women quietly tolerate (nausea, digestive upset, fatigue, and appetite disruption). Supporting digestion is one of the oldest roles in Chinese medicine, and it fits naturally with this kind of care. Every herbal recommendation is reviewed by our trained practitioners against your prescriptions, and we’re happy to coordinate with your prescribing provider.

When you’re coming off the GLP medication, this is when the fear of gaining it all back comes in.

This transition is often when women feel most alone. It’s not uncommon for the appetite to returns, the lifestyle habits built get tested, and there’s a real fear about losing hard-earned progress.

That’s exactly when whole-person support matters most. Acupuncture, herbal medicine, and practical food guidance aimed at supporting your body systems. We help regulate, digestion, appetite, sleep, and stress, while your body adjusts to being without the medication.

If you are tapering off a GLP, we’d ideally like to see you when you start that taper. That’s when TCM can be most effective at helping the maintain what’s been gained and offset the harder parts of the transition.

Our promise to you.

Careful pattern-based treatment, recommendations screened for safety, direct answers about what we’re observing, and a plan that treats you like a whole woman, not a before photo.
